Why go
The South Caribbean, from Cahuita to Puerto Viejo and Punta Uva, has an Afro-Caribbean heritage, jungle-backed beaches and a slower pace. Its driest months often fall in September–October and around February–March, when the Pacific side is wetter or busier, which makes it a good alternative season. Tortuguero, to the north, has no road access; visitors arrive by boat or small plane.
