Why go
La Fortuna, below Arenal Volcano, is about three hours from San José and packs hot springs, hanging bridges, waterfalls and wildlife tours into a small area. Monteverde is higher, cooler and misty, about three to four hours away by road. Río Celeste, near Tenorio Volcano, is a long day trip from La Fortuna.
