The two-hour rule

As a rough guide, if the drive each way is more than about two hours, consider staying a night closer instead. Long return drives after an active day are tiring, and roads can be slow after dark.

Check the pickup zone

Listings usually say which hotels or towns are included in pickup. If yours is outside the zone, you may need to get to a meeting point.

Leave buffer days

Boat trips can be rescheduled for sea conditions. Plan weather-sensitive tours early in your stay so there is room to move them.
